"The doctors in the ambulance told me that he was doing well, that he was already conscious", said former Real Madrid defender Pepe, who was among those crying and praying as the Dragons' right back was receiving medical attention.

"I wish our teammate Nanu a speedy recovery", he said on behalf of the team, in his post-match flash interview.

FC Porto released an update stating that "Nanu had a cerebral concussion and spinal cord injury with loss of memory. At present he is stable, conscious and aware of time and his surroundings", but "will continue to be observed at the Hospital S. Francisco Xavier".

18 minutes were added to the end of the game which ended in a 0 - 0 draw, leaving FC Porto in the second place of the Primeira Liga, three points behind Sporting Lisbon.

Belenenses is currently 12th.
